On Saturday the 13th, the Postal carrier’s national food drive was held. Thanks to Burnsville and Savage postal carriers, the Fruit of the Vine Food Shelf collected 27,513 lbs. of non-perishable food. Apple Valley Post office contributed 521 lbs as well, but opted out of the national drive.
Thanks to the Allstate Peterbilt Group for donating two 53’ trailers to store the food products and related boxes and pallets. Both trailers are full!
The volunteers included 46 in Burnsville and 3 in Apple Valley collection stations. In addition, Burnsville warehousing had 4 volunteers operating forklifts and pallet jacks moving and preparing store totes of pallets. The unloading crew greeted the Postal Carriers, gave them cold water bottles and unloaded the trucks in teams of 6 to 20. Volunteers came from our local community and some corporate teams like Luther Nissan/Kia of Inver Grove Heights. Team leaders included Miguel Aviles, Jerry Schmeling and Paul Lalime.
It was so evident that the communities supported the national food drive to end hunger and we have so many people to thank for making this possible. We have been blessed to be able to participate in the Stamp Out Hunger food drive through the years and all the possibilities come from those who sacrifice their time and energy in volunteering. THANK YOU for all you do!
